Rants about Skyward Sword

Post by VanitasXII on Sun Oct 09, 2011 6:51 pm

No Magic Meter - What's
the deal, Nintendo? There's absolutely no reason at all that you should
NOT incorporate a magic meter! It obviously worked with AoL, MM, and
OoT, why not implement it in SS as well? The possibilities of items you
could've added into the game are now limited to mechanical
stuff...really, what a waste. Magic meter was gonna be in TP as we've
seen in the Green Chu Jelly and the back of the boxart, but for some odd
reason it didn't make the cut. SS, from what we can drag from thus far,
will not have a magic meter. And there's absolutely no reason to NOT
have one, because SS is trying to take ideas from every Zelda game to
date!

Zelda Being Kidnapped - Okay,
really. Nintendo, I know there is a formula that you pretty much
established, and you want to stay as close to that as possible, but does
Zelda really have to be kidnapped? Is it that farfetched to let her be
our companion? She appears in our radial menu, so why the heck
not? She could wield a sword, maybe even SHE could use a magic
meter...but NOOO, she just has to be a damsel. A strong willed damsel
doesn't change the fact that she is needy as heck and can't physically
fight for herself. Always has to be that god or Link or whatever. She
can't just pick up a sword and fight?! Am I really to believe that?
/rage

Zelda having to do with some power - As
I said in the above reason, Zelda always has to rely on some god or
Link to help her out of sticky situations. Now, she is being kidnapped
because she has something to do with some power, her being a shrine
maiden and what not. While that makes complete sense (her being a shrine
maiden should give her some kinda power, shouldn't it?), I still
don't like it because once again, her character is limited. Nintendo,
you don't have to try to disguise her as a playful character. You don't
have to say "oh, she is strong willed and ready to be sealed so the
world below can be safe". I get the picture: she is a damsel in
distress, a plot device. She may have good characterization throughout
the game, but undoubtedly Link is still going to be the one doing the
main saving, with Zelda probably doing something at the end of the game.
I want her to finally be a physical fighter, fighting alongside us with
a sword, and not a freaking plot device!

Starting with 6 Hearts - Skyward
Sword is breaking from the regular Zelda tradition. To help that out,
we're going to start out with six hearts! A necessary change to ensure
the veteran Zelda fan is aware of the changes. Or...not so much. Does a
six heart challenge sound menacing to you? Are you afraid at all,
knowing you'll go into tough battles with six, not three, hearts? Does a
minimalist run with six hearts even sound right to you? If it
does...well, that's perfectly okay. But to myself, I would much prefer
we be able to go in with three hearts WITHOUT HAVING TO LOSE THREE ADDITIONAL HEARTS ON PURPOSE
and test my limits that way. As Google Translate says, Mon défi préféré
est un "Coeur Trois" Défi! which more or less does not say the intended
'My favorite challenge is a "Three Heart" challenge!'. In a nutshell,
6HC is not nearly as challenged as a 3HC. I guarantee you, go to any
professional 3HC board and talk about a six hearter. You will either be
banned for your noobness, or laughed at and subsequently trolled.

Fi's Silly Noises - I am
highly interested in Fi. I expect she'll be an NPC/plot device with
characterization. While that is somewhat hypocritical to my rants about
Zelda, it is okay in mine eyes because of Fi's pre defined role as a
sidekick. So, Fi is the spirit of the Goddess Blade/Sword and you know
what? Some spoilers happen and we get an upgraded blade that only
professionals can use. What annoys me though, is that Fi will be aiding
us...and her voice, no, her babbling, is alike that of Midna. Anyone who
knows me knows that I heavily dislike, possibly even hate, the game
"Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess". Among the reasons why I hate that
game is because of, you guessed it, Midna. Her speeches were completely
non understood by my ears, they detracted from the experience that I
could've had. It was worse than the HEY, LOOK, LISTEN, WATCH OUT
that a certain well known orb of light would shout at me. I don't want
that same experience from Fi. I want to love Fi. I want to be engorged
by Fi. I want Fi to be another Saria, another Cremia. That won't happen
if her silly noises are aggravating.

**Save System - I
absolutely loved the save system of Majora's Mask. It was a huge
inconvenience, sure, but that is because of how the game was laid out;
you had a 3 day time limit! Skyward Sword...do we have a time limit? We
don't know, but thus far it doesn't seem we will. So what is the point
of having a segmented save system rather than being able to save
wherever we want, whenever we want? I realize that SS is trying to be
different...but that difference doesn't have to make the saving turn
into a hassle. Just let us save whereever, it takes a lot less effort on
your part!

I hope you enjoyed these
non-serious minirants! While the points themselves I am actually serious
about (ESPECIALLY THE NO MAGIC METER!), what I said about them wasn't
entirely true.

Look, son, the reason why there's no magic meter is because Nintendo is trying their hardest to make SS alike that of IMBA. In other words, gay. IMBA:TP :: Straight:OoT

Got it memorized?

There's absolutely no way Zelda will ever NOT be a plot device. Sorry, Van, but that's just how the series works!

I have this itching feeling that SS will not be nearly as good as Ocarina of TIme or Majora's Mask. You may ask why but the reason is because it lacks a magic bar and the gameplay is not really that good in my opinion. Dumb people will argue that because the gameplay is more precise, it is more fun. Do they not see that with the preciseness comes artificial length? WHy is it so ridiculous like that? How come Nintendo can't wake up and give us a magic bar? Is it that hard? Why must we start with six hearts instead of three, destroying the reputation the fabled Three Heart Challenge (3HC) has garnered? Zelda:SS has so many reasons as to why it will fail. OOT/MM will be the best Zelda games ever!

Precision brings death. Precision Pistol, circa 2005 [Source: SWB2]
Because precision means stronger pistol, stronger pistol means two shots to obliterate a droid.
Nintendo wants to be IMBA.
Yes, I am hard. Core.
Because SS wants to be IMBA.

True dat!
